Libraries are places of wonder for all ages. As children…to sit in story time, get their first library card. As teens…a place to meet friends while doing homework. As adults…a place to get that NYTimes best seller, old favorite or DIY information. They are the hub of each community and to lose a library is a sad thing that undermines the ties of the community.

What would you say if your community library had to close its doors? What if you couldn’t take out a book over the weekend for your child’s school project because not a single library was open? What if the shelves were bare? What would you say if afterschool programs, computer classes, and English lessons at the library were slashed in half or eliminated all together? Your Queens Library card has already you given you access to check out eBooks—and starting today, with the launch of a new pilot program at Queens Library at Central, you’ll now be able to check out e-readers as well! We have 50 e-readers available to Queens Library cardholders (who present a photo I.D.) for seven days, with the option to renew two times. The e-readers are preloaded with books on one of five themes: best sellers, romances, mysteries, teens’, or children’s books. There are also 50 works of classic literature loaded onto each reader. As the pilot is evaluated and funding becomes available, e-readers will be introduced to other Queens Library locations. It is the first time the service has been made available in one of NYC’s public libraries. Let us know what you think of this initiative! For more information, visit our website or call 718-990-0700.
